
Student data is said to be protected through FERPA. In addition to IT policies, the interviewees agreed that student data is well-protected. However there have been certain arguments that FERPA is not enough to grant adequate protection to online student data. A lot of the arguments are centered around the age of the bill. FERPA grants protections to student records (“information recorded in any way, including, but not limited to, handwriting, print, computer media, video, audio tape, film, microfilm, and microfiche.”) but there have been arguments as to whether or not online student data counts as such.
