Q12 – Who can view whether a student is currently logged into your LMS?

There were two correct answers for this item. While professors have insight as to the times at which students submit assignments, as well as the last date of a student’s activity within their course, they cannot tell if a student is online at any given time, unless they get extremely lucky with their timing. Only top-level administrators are able to see whether users are currently logged into the system, but they were not one of the answer choices on the survey. This made “nobody” a viable answer choice. Because students are obviously able to see whether they are logged into the LMS or not, “only the student” was a viable answer choice, as well.

Correct response rates for the three groups are at 11% for administrators, 21% for faculty, and 37% for students. The majority of students answered “only the student” which shows that they could have been thinking about the question in terms of their own insight to, and use of their learning management system. Overall, answers were distributed pretty widely across the board, and “don’t know” response rates were comparatively high, at 20%, 39%, and 30%, respectively, indicating low levels of consensus and confidence throughout all three groups.
