Correct answers are in accordance to interviews with top-level IT administrators at CU Boulder, UCCS, and CU Denver. Answers correspond to the LMS Canvas, and not to other systems, though the configurations of Canvas were modeled off of previously-used LMSs (D2L at CU Boulder, and Blackboard at UCCS were mentioned), so it is not out of the question to assume similar settings for different systems. Answers vary slightly across schools, but are overall very similar.
CU Boulder: Parties mentioned as having access to this data include students, top-level IT administrators, and Instructure personnel.
UCCS: According to the interviewee at UCCS, nobody has access to this information. Administrators can see if a student has touched a document, not if they have downloaded it.
CU Denver: Parties mentioned as having access to this data include IT administrators (could probably find this information with enough digging, but it would be difficult), and Instructure personnel.
Most-Correct Survey Response Choice: There are two response choices that could be considered to be correct. Because of the fact that this information cannot really be obtained by anybody aside from administrators, “nobody” is a viable answer choice due to the fact that administrators’ access permissions were not brought up in the survey. Another viable answer choice is “only the student” as students are able to tell what they download. However, there is nothing on Canvas which tells a student whether or not they have already downloaded an item.
